Setup recommendation: start with separate keys for Confirm, Cancel, and End Turn. v0.110 adds real keyboard-only support and a clearer remapping screen, but early beta reports describe conflicts when one key is expected to confirm a selection in one context and end the turn in another.
What v0.110 adds
The beta introduces keyboard-only mode rather than treating the keyboard as a partial mouse substitute. The official notes also add:
- a “Listening For Input” popup while remapping;
- clearer input-remap spacing, colors, and glyphs;
- a gray hyphen when a binding is missing;
- more explicit notice of whether Steam Input is active;
- improved selection reticle contrast;
- the name “Keyboard-Only” in place of “Full Keyboard.”
These are small UI details with a large practical effect: you can see whether an action is genuinely bound instead of discovering the gap during a boss turn.
A clean first-time setup
- Opt into beta v0.110.0 and confirm the version in game.
- Open the input or controls settings.
- Select Keyboard-Only mode.
- Review every action, not just movement and card selection.
- Assign separate keys for Confirm, Cancel, and End Turn.
- Check for gray hyphens, which indicate missing bindings.
- Test in a low-stakes run before loading an important climb.
Do not copy a binding layout merely because it looks efficient. The best layout is the one you can use without looking down and without confusing a reversible menu action with an irreversible combat action.
A practical binding layout
Exact defaults can change during beta, so this guide does not pretend one universal key map is official. Use these principles when choosing your own.
| Action group | Recommended placement | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Directional navigation | One familiar four-key cluster | Keeps map, menus, and card rows consistent |
| Confirm / play | Dominant-hand or thumb key | High frequency, low reach |
| Cancel / back | Separate nearby key | Easy recovery without ending a turn |
| End Turn | Deliberate, isolated key | Prevents accidental irreversible input |
| Inspect / details | Nearby secondary key | Useful often, but not time-critical |
| Piles / map / deck | A simple mnemonic cluster | Faster learning across screens |
The isolation of End Turn matters more than shaving one finger movement. A control scheme should make common actions fast and costly mistakes hard.
Confirm and End Turn conflicts
Players testing the first v0.110 beta have reported cases where a key previously used for both Confirm and End Turn no longer behaves as expected in every context. Similar reports mention Space or E behaving differently between mouse-and-keyboard and keyboard-only modes.
Treat these as beta reports, not universal facts. Hardware, mode, existing bindings, and Steam Input can change the result.
Use this workaround order:
- Bind Confirm and End Turn to different keys.
- Remove duplicate bindings, then reassign them one at a time.
- Exit the settings screen and reopen it to verify the values persisted.
- Test card selection, reward confirmation, map movement, and End Turn separately.
- Restart the game once before concluding the binding is broken.
If a single key is essential for accessibility, report the conflict with exact mode and version details. Do not assume a community workaround is the final intended behavior.
Steam Input: check its state, do not guess
v0.110 makes Steam Input status more explicit. That is useful because Steam Input can transform controller or device inputs before the game sees them.
If bindings behave twice, switch unexpectedly, or display the wrong glyph:
- note whether Steam Input is active;
- test once with the current setting;
- change only that setting and test again;
- keep the in-game binding map otherwise identical.
Changing Steam Input, keyboard mode, and several keybinds at the same time makes the cause impossible to isolate.
A five-screen test
Before calling the setup finished, visit five contexts:
- Main menu: move, confirm, and cancel.
- Map: move only to connected nodes and back out safely.
- Combat hand: inspect, select, cancel, and play a card.
- Pile view: open draw or discard, inspect, and close.
- End Turn: trigger it only with the dedicated key.
The map test is especially useful because v0.110 also improves controller focus around Winged Boots. It helps reveal whether the active input mode has changed unexpectedly.
Missing binding or wrong glyph
A gray hyphen means the action has no binding. Assign it and look for the new glyph. If the glyph is wrong or disappears:
- verify the active input mode;
- click or navigate away from the row so the setting commits;
- reopen the menu;
- check Steam Input status;
- restart before filing a report.
Record a screenshot of the input page and a second screenshot of the version number. A clear report should name the action, assigned key, input mode, Steam Input state, and screen where it fails.
Beta expectations
Keyboard-only support is a meaningful accessibility improvement, but v0.110 is still a test branch. Bindings and edge cases may change quickly. Keep End Turn isolated, leave no missing actions, and re-check the control page after each beta update.
The goal is not the cleverest layout. It is a layout you can trust when the run is one input away from ending.
