Four changes, one sequencing problem

v0.111 changes four Regent cards that connect Stars, Forge, draw, and Energy.

Cardv0.111 changeNew evaluation
AlignmentStar cost 3 → 2Easier to convert Stars into the Energy turn
Guiding StarDraw moves to next turn; cost 2 → 1 StarCheaper setup with delayed consistency
Spoils of BattleForge 5(8) → 6(9)Better broad Forge plus current draw
Refine BladeForge 9(13) → 8(12)Slightly weaker focused Forge, still offers next-turn Energy

The common thread is timing. Regent loses when a strong resource arrives one turn after the fight demanded it.

Alignment: cheaper conversion needs a payoff

Alignment becoming a 2-Star card makes it easier to fit into a real turn. That does not make Stars free. The deck still has to create them, draw Alignment, and have useful cards to play with the Energy.

Take it when the deck regularly has more playable cards than Energy and can generate two Stars without weakening the same turn. Avoid treating it as an Energy relic that is always on.

The best Alignment turn is planned: Stars are ready, the hand contains a decisive combination, and the Energy changes damage or defense now.

Guiding Star: plan the next hand

Guiding Star is cheaper at 1 Star, but its draw now arrives next turn. The attack still contributes current damage; the consistency is delayed.

That makes it stronger as a bridge into a known future turn and weaker as an emergency attempt to find Block immediately. Before playing it, ask:

  • What cards remain in the draw pile?
  • Will next turn contain enough Energy to use the extra draw?
  • Is the current turn safe without those cards?
  • Does spending the Star prevent a more important current payoff?

The cost reduction improves flexibility. The delayed draw requires discipline.

Spoils of Battle versus Refine Blade

Spoils gains one Forge, while Refine Blade loses one. That narrows the raw Forge gap, especially when Spoils' draw helps the current turn.

Refine Blade still has a focused role: improve the selected card and prepare extra Energy next turn. It can be better when one scaling attack is doing real work and tomorrow's Energy has a planned use.

Spoils is better when draw now and broader Forge value improve several playable options. The choice is not “9 is bigger than 8.” It is current draw plus distributed improvement versus focused improvement plus delayed Energy.

A turn-by-turn Regent checklist

Use this sequence before spending Stars:

  1. Read the current enemy intent.
  2. Count Stars already available and the cost to create more.
  3. Decide whether the payoff is for this turn or next turn.
  4. Check whether draw will arrive before or after it is needed.
  5. Forge the card that changes the upcoming fight, not the prettiest target.

The general Regent guide covers Stars and Forge from the ground up. The Regalite guide covers creation-based defense after its separate v0.111 nerf.

Draft verdict

v0.111 gives Regent more efficient Star spending and slightly redistributes Forge power. Alignment and Guiding Star become cheaper, but neither should be drafted without a turn to fund. Spoils of Battle becomes more competitive for broad value; Refine Blade remains a focused setup tool.

The winning habit is simple: label every resource as now or next turn. Regent's cards become much easier to compare once their timing is explicit.
